I have been reading so many great books this year, I guess it would make sense to right up in one place what I think about them. There is such a treasure trove of talented writers out there just looking for people to read their works and spread the word as a lot of these artists are independent and word of mouth is priceless in their world.
I have been lucky enough to be in a group who gets to read and review some of these amazing writers, and I would have to say I am very lucky for being included. These authors have such creative talent and could definitely show established writers a thing or two.
If you want to try something new and set your imagination on fire, look outside what is already there and have a look at the unknown and you will be in for a surprise.
I'm going to repost some of my reviews for these book here and hopefully someone will open a door into a world that is much bigger than their current one with the magic of a good book.
These are some of the fabulous books I have had the joy of reading just over the last couple of months. There is nothing more enjoyable than slipping into a good books and letting it take you away to another time and place. I love when I get so engrossed in a book that I lose myself, and there is nothing quite like the feeling of absolute disappointment when such a fabulous story ends and I either have to wait for the next book or the story has reached it conclusion. I'm sure there are many book lovers who know these feelings well.
Guardian (The guardian) (Kindle Edition) Guardian was such a fantastic read that captured me from the very first page. I love Hannah she is such a strong female character, and Gabriel is just perfect in every way. I made easy connections to characters and found the story flowed smoothly and I didn't want to put it down at any time. I love how Hannah's story unfolds and I am dying to read Forever as I am so eager to see where the story goes now. I have recommended this book to all my friends who like this kind of story and even to some who don't I think it is that good. I was given this book in return for my honest review.
: The Spirit Box (Paperback) The Spirit Box was the perfect book for me. I won the kindle book from JH Glaze..Thanks by the way :)such an awesome read. The characters were easy to follow and the twists in the story had me feeling anxious as I didn't know what to expect next, which is definitely something I like in a good story. I I'm not drawn into the story I simply will not read it.
Walt was a bit creepy from the start and the Spirit Box just magnified that creepiness by a lot. The danger and the power of what the box offers is a temptation I don't think any ordinary person could deny.
I can't wait for the to read the next book in the series.
NorthWest (John Hazard - Book II) (Kindle Edition) I loved this book. Northwest is even better than The Spirit Box, I loved the storyline and I also loved seeing John have a human side and not just the stiff mechanical detective side. His central role in the book I think helps tie all the characters together, and the story itself is brilliant. Reading the series of events that lead the group into the forests of the Northwest US, kept me interested and guessing the whole time, I love the build up of tension and anxiety because I didn't know what would happen next.
I really cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out.
Forever (Guardian) (Kindle Edition) Forever is even better than Guardian, which I absolutely loved. Forever has so many surprises in it that I really was not expecting. I love how all the characters are here as well as the setting being mostly in Australia. The twists and turns definitely left me wanting more, I cannot wait for Revenge to come out.
I really enjoyed the variety in this book, vamps, angels, warlocks, mermaids and more. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends, it's an easy and enjoyable book to read.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Energy - The Awakening (The Energy Chronicles: Book I) (Kindle Edition) Wow! This was such a great book. I love Brighton and I love Lily. The book was such a great read, it reminds of David Eddings, whose books I adore. I love how the story progresses, my favourite character would have to be mischief.
My favourite line from the book would have to be when Brighton asks John what marbles are as he had been told he had lost his, though he never thought he had any in the first place, it really made me laugh.
Lily and Brighton go through so many hardships starting at their home in Clareton, and it seems to follow them for most of the stroy, they lose and sacrifice so much, but they also find joy and happiness along the way even with all the evils chasing them from place to place.
I really love this book and I can''t wait to read the next in the series.
S.P.I.R.I.T. (Fire Storm) (Kindle Edition) The old adage never judge a book by it's cover, I am some what of a cover snob and tend to over look books if the cover doesn't draw me in, I know, pretty ordinary isn't it? Anyway, although the cover didn't initially draw me in, I am so excited to have been able to read it. The characters are really well written and Sam and Zander's relationship is literally smoking hot.
I love the way the story just jumps right in and had me guessing from the very first page trying to figure out what was going on. Being curious by nature, this book is a winner because it kept me guessing all the way through.
I love the camaraderie between the soldiers, and the real cheeky way they seem to interact with each other, and being a big fan of all things Native American, I love how they featured in the story.
I am hoping there will be more to the story as I loved reading it and would definitely read any future installments that Sam and Zander share.
Saving Bobby (Paperback) This is not my usual genre of book, and I don't read a lot of religious based books, but every so often I will pick one up and be astounded by how much it makes me question myself and that is what this book did, as I find my beliefs to be similar to haw Bobby reacts initially to all the talk of God and prayers. I am not what would be called religious but Saving Bobby was such a great story which really let me look at what life must be for someone struggling with such pain and suffering, and how frustrating it must be for someone to say trust in God and pray and let Him in, if you want to understand the way life is and why things sometimes happen the way they do.
I love the story and I cried and cried at the reunion, such a sad story but one that teaches a valuable lesson along the way.
Shadows & voices; a Holly Silverstone adventure (Holly Silverstone books) (Kindle Edition) I love this book, it is exactly why I love to read, it captured me in the first few pages and drew me in further with every new page.
I love Holly she is definitely a character I really like. She has all the usual hang ups about not fitting in and being afraid of new things, but she also knows she is something special especially when she gets the mysterious self writing letter from Highlands Academy, which is right in her neighbour hood but she never knew it existed.
I love the teachers, they are all quirky and fun and Ovissa is a book all on her own with all her sluething and dangerous past times, I love how it is just one misadventure after another that she finds herself in.
I love the doorways and the overlapping of Obscura and the seen world, it adds depth and character to the story, and I would love to be able to speak those magical words Opus Tempo that everything would just freeze for a minute and let me catch up.
I can't wait for the next book in the series to see how much trouble Holly can get herself into this time and see what parts of Obscura she lands herself in.
Birth of a Wizard (The Energy Chronicles: Book II) (Kindle Edition) Wow! What else can I say. I love this series. Lily and Brighton's story just gets better and better, and I simply cannot wait to see what happens next. I love how this story unfolded and took me off in another direction. A looming war, constant danger and tragedy make this book and epic tale and a classic waiting to happen. I don't buy a lot of paper books these days, but series I love I buy, so I will be looking into purchasing these books in paper form for my collection.
New characters such as Donic and Lance and regular characters Nicky, Peter, Brac and Adri add such a great feel to the story adding their own personal stories to the greater story, making it so complete, I just fell into the story and didn't want it to finish, I hate that I loved the book so much that I read it so quickly and it was over again, and now the waiting begins.
Thank you for such an amazing story.
Oceans of Red Volume One (Kindle Edition) I loved this book, the demons and their characteristic black oozy smoke made me reminisce about Sam and Dean, some will know who I mean. I love Remy, how strong she is and how capable of looking after herself as well as working with her siblings, Greg and Shane to help try and find a way to destroy the influx of demons which are slipping through to their world through a rift in dimensions.
The story is easy to read and the characters are easy to like, and they drew me in and really carried me through the story and I was surprised when I reached the end so quickly because I could not put it down, so much so that I went and bought volume 2 straight away so I could keep reading.I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Oceans of Red volume two (Kindle Edition) I couldn't wait to read volume 2 after finishing up with volume 1, and it was no disappointment. The continuing story of Remy, Greg and Shane unfolded smoothly and was just as good if not better than the first book. I loved the introduction of the druids, I find them to be interesting and their rituals and rights are magical in their own right.
I loved reading about Remy's transition but am curious as to why her transition was floored, even with the interruption to her sleep stage. Remy seems to have more secrets buried in her head than even the druids know.
I really enjoyed this book, read it way too fast and now I have to wait for the next installment, counting down the days.... :)
The Witching Pen (The Witching Pen Novellas) (Kindle Edition) Firstly, thank you to Dianna Hardy for gifting me this book in return for an honest review.
I have to admit that the "witchy" genre is definitely becoming more appealing to me as I read more books with magic and wizadry in them. The Witching Pen is such an amazing book, once I sat down with it I had to keep reading as I really wanted to know what was going to happen.
I love how Elena is so normal even though she is a powerful witch, with normal relationships and normal attitudes to day to day events, and I love how she has such a great relationship with Karl, who from reading the book is kind of like her missing piece. It is a shame that she doesn't know the truth about her heritage as I am sure that there would have been a lot of different decisions she would have made along the way in regards to her life.
Karl is Elena's best friend and room mate, and there is just something magical about him even though he claims he is simply a human, and he swears to protect Elena from Shanka demons who are invading her sleep, they are a race of demons who were banished after their creation for fear they would dominate the world, and push it into darkness.
I love the mix of good and dark magic, and I love the different tribes of demons. I wouldn't mind a demon like Pueblo hanging around in his loin cloth.
I am itching to know what is different about Mary, who is Elena's assistant manager in her shop and there just seems to be something amazing about her, her dreams seem to be prophetic.

This book moved along with out any help, I picked it up, I loved it and then I bought the next book because I want to read more about these great characters.
Book One Midnight Hunter First in The Midnight Hunter Trilogy (Kindle Edition) This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

This book has it all, a bit of fear, a lot of thrill and even some mystery and steamy romance. There is definitely no sparkle in the vampires in this book, they are the frightening creatures of nightmares in their true form.
However I love how in this book vampires carry traits through with them from their mortal lives, so good people are even better vampires, while evil people are even worse vampires. I like that they are not all evil and out for blood.
The characters are easy to get along with, the main characters being Donna who suffers from terrible dreams which seep into her reality leaving her bruised and in pain, her best friend Mo, who is such a good hearted person but can be extremely out there. Mo is probably my favourite as she just blurts everything out and she is rough, no polished edges anywhere to be seen, she provides a smile through out the story with her bluntness and lack of charm.
Then there is Hunter the mysterious man in the teen dance club. Gorgeous and mysterious and the key to help Donna figure out her own life and the things that terrify her.
Sammee is a very bright bubbly ray of sunshine in a very dim world, but she adds a certain amount of freshness to everything she comes in contact with, even though I think if she were real her perkiness would send me a little bit crazy after a while.
Midnight Hunter is such an easy book to read, and I can;t wait to be swallowed up into Dawn Of The Hunter to find out what creepiness is in store for the group next.
